What better place to hone your cooking skills than in your own kitchen? It's where you want the magic to happen! And we can make it work no matter the size of your kitchen, or the equipment you have. In the privacy and comfort of your home, one-on-one, or with a group of friends, you'll learn, laugh, taste and touch your way to becoming a better cook. Not to mention the fact that classes with classically-trained Chef and "Kitchenista" Rachel Willen, are an entertaining, informative and fun event!

Classes are approximately 3 1/2 hours long, but can run slightly shorter or longer depending on menu, group size and execution. The more hands involved the quicker everything comes together. They are built around a 3 to 4 course menu that culminates in beautifully finished dishes that you and your  guest students will sit and savor.

Scheduling

We will work with your schedule. Afternoon, evening and weekend time slots are available. Once we find a date or dates that work, you'll send in a non-refundable deposit to hold it. If you have to cancel for any reason, we ask that you give us 24-hour notice by phone and we'll apply your deposit to your a rescheduled class or a gift certificate you can use at a later date.

Menus:

We've developed some popular classes that are both challenging and delicious and fit a wide-range of skill levels. Browse through our menus to see which whets your appetite, and then remember that once you choose one, we can "tweek" it a bit to fit your's or your guest's food likes, dislikes, or allergens. Also take a look at our series classes, Cooking Lighter, Culinary Basics, and The Master Series for a more in-depth experience that will build knowledge and skills over 4 or more sessions.

Groceries

The class host (person in whose home the classes will be) will be  sent a detailed shopping list prior to each class so they can have the necessary groceries on hand for the class menu. Online grocery ordering and store delivery services can make this easier.  Splitting the shopping, the class fee and grocery costs with a few friends can make these private classes easy, fun and affordable. If you want us to do the shopping there is an additional charge of $75 per class, plus the cost of groceries.

Location and Travel Fees

These private classes can be held in any home kitchen in the New York/NJ Metro Area. TRAVEL FEES: A flat fee of $40 applies to all classes in NYC and Brooklyn. A Travel Fee of $50 per hour of roundtrip travel, apply to Queens, Staten Island, The Bronx, Westchester, Long Island, Northern and Southern NJ, CT and PA.  For rates and logistics involving travel outside of the NY Metro area, please contact us.

Timing

We ask that you don't have an expectation about the exact end time of the class, or schedule your boss or your in-laws to pop over to taste the finished results at any exact moment! Cooking times will vary depending on equipment, number of students participating, skill level, prep time, space or the need for more detailed instruction with some students. If you have specific expectations for the class, please discuss these with Chef Rachel beforehand and we'll do our best to make cooking magic happen for you during your class!

Is My Kitchen Going To Work?

We'll need a functioning 4-burner stove, oven, refrigerator, enough counter or tabletop space to accommodate a cutting board for every two participants. We'll provide a kitchen tool checklist to determine if you have the essentials to conduct the class. We can recommend tools you can purchase or we can often bring what's needed. We generally provide cutting boards, aprons, ingredient bowls and knives.
